Of all things to shoot, people are the most ephemeral and unpredictable. I try to capture the moment that people’s inner lives touches their outer lives, particularly through candid, unposed photos.
I strongly believe that a photos featuring people, particularly candid photos, can be one of the few things in this world that can trigger an almost instant universal connection.
Whether the photographer captures the subject unawares, or the photographer works in tandem with the subject(s) to create the photo, the visual language of people is one of the most powerful we have as a species. It’s always an honour to try and contribute to that collection of work.
Sometimes life’s colour blinds us to the beauty and truth that shades of grey can reveal. While I have a huge respect for the black and white tradition of street photography in particular, it’s not something that I believe needs to be exclusively used.
I use black and white to try and find the special perspective in the shots I take, to help bring out the truth of the people, places or situations being depicted.
Or at least, I hope that’s what you find as well. Thanks for taking the time to view these photos.
I’m a city kid. I grew up in the heart of a big city, and I’ve always loved everything about them. They’re the place where cultures and peoples come together in weird and wonderful ways. These photos are an attempt to capture a bit of that beautifully chaotic landscape and all the ways we attempt to bring order to it.
